The City of Mount Vernon, New York – Richard Thomas, Mayor and the Department of Recreation: Darren M. Morton, Ed.D., Commissioner ~ Diane Atkins, MPA, Deputy Commissioner invite the public to another exciting season of the Mount Vernon Summer Breeze Concert Series. We are happy to recognize this year’s sponsors as: The City of Mount Vernon, New York, Mayor Richard Thomas, Mount Vernon NY Department of Recreation, Assemblyman J. Gary Pretlow, New York State Senator Jeffrey D. Klein, Westchester County Legislator Lyndon D. Williams, ArtsWestchester, Lusiadas Portuguese Restaurant, Maggie Spillane’s Ale House, and Dazzle’s Caribbean Restaurant.
This season boasts of electrifying, foot-tapping, finger-snapping music of jazz, gospel, hip-hop, reggae, “ole skool” R&B, “Italian Night”, “Caribbean Night” and so much more! The series launched on July 2nd with the excitement of smooth & sexy jazz tunes from Mount Vernon native son, Rocky Middleton, also the sassy sounds of the all-woman band, SAGE.
As the enthusiasm continues, so does the anticipation of Thursday, August 18th as Sam Taybron, who stems from Queens, NY will hit the stage in the greatest of ease … Taybron recently launched his sophomore cd entitled “Love Station”, which contains a plethora of “love songs” that warms the heart … to start the night. Inter-nationally acclaimed recording artist and actor CHRISTOPHER WILLIAMS then shares his captivating magic and turns “all-the-way-up”! Williams is a native of Bronx, NY whose musical career scored the hits: “I’m Dreamin'”, from the New Jack City soundtrack that became a #1 single on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks charts; “Talk to Myself”, “Every Little Thing U Do”, “Promises, Promises” among many. His acting career include the film New Jack City where he portrayed the role of Kareem Akbar, and cameo appearances in New York Undercover and The Gunmen starring Christopher Lambert and Mario Van Peebles. He has starred and co-starred in an array of successful off Broadway theatre productions: The Clean-Up Woman, A Good Man is Hard to Find, A House is Not a Home, Men Cry in the Dark … and the list goes on. Williams is the nephew of legendary jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald. What a night THAT is going to be!! …
The fun doesn’t stop here! September 8th brings the dynamic performances of the FULL CIRCLE Band, also VALARIE ADAMS and The Dimension Band … WARNING, WARNING: Dress comfortably because you WILL be dancing all night long!
