Community Development Block Grant Program Mayor’s Scholarship Program
The Mayor’s Scholarship Program for 2018 is now open. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program provides scholarship funds to Mount Vernon residents who are classified as low to moderate income and are enrolled in a community college, a university or vocational program.
Twenty-five (25) students who are enrolled full-time in post-secondary institutions will be selected to receive a $2,000 scholarship for the 2018-2019 academic year. Awards will be dispersed directly to the schools in $1,000 increments each semester.
To be eligible, selected students must meet the CDBG grant income guidelines, as well as, the following other requirements:
- Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States of America. (Must provide any document showing U.S. Citizenship or legal resident status).
- Must be residents of Mount Vernon, New York.
- If selected for the scholarship, students must enroll as full-time students in a post-secondary institution in the Fall of 2018.
- Applicants must meet the criteria for poverty income for the entire household and complete the intake/family member information forms and scholarship application.
Applications are due by 4:00pm on Tuesday, June 5, 2018.
