The City of Mount Vernon, in partnership with Con-Edison, is modernizing the electrical system throughout the City. This modernization and overall system upgrade are part of a Storm Hardening Initiative, meaning we are toughening our defenses against future storms.
The “Initiative” includes installing eighty-four (84) new and much stronger utility poles.
These new poles will employ smarter technology that minimizes outages while improving system reliability. Also, once up and running, the upgraded system provides additional power sources, so in the event of a power outage, the number of households without power will be decreased by at least 60%.
Work on installing the system will commence on Monday, May 16th, with an estimated duration of 4 to 6 months, depending on weather conditions.
