PRESS RELEASE: Arrest made for Arson at 505-507 South 7th Avenue
On Monday December 20th, 2021 at approximately 11:30 AM, while on patrol in the area of South 7th Avenue and Sandford Boulevard, Mount Vernon Police Department Officers observed the house located at 505 South 7th Avenue to be fully engulfed in flames. Officers on scene also observed the fire spread to the adjacent house located at 507 South 7th Avenue. Members of the Police Department made entry into 507 South 7th Avenue and got one resident out safely. The Mount Vernon Fire Department arrived on scene and with the help of the New Rochelle Fire Department and Pelham Fire Department, were able to bring the fire under control and contain it to 505 and 507 South 7th Avenue. Both locations sustained major damage.
Upon further investigation by the Mount Vernon Fire Department and a Westchester County Police Arson Investigator, it was determined that the fire was intentionally set, so the fire was deemed an arson. Follow- up investigation by Mount Vernon Police Detectives led to a suspect, and an arrest was made on Wednesday, December 22nd.
The suspect, Shawn Gaillard (a 33 year old male), of Mount Vernon was arrested and charged in Mount Vernon City Court with one count of Arson 3rd degree and one count of Arson 4th degree. Gaillard was remanded to the Westchester County Jail.
