United States Conference of Mayors Host Roundtable to Boost Mount Vernon Small Businesses

Mount Vernon, NY - Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard, City of Mount Vernon hosted a Small Business Roundtable event with the United States Conference of Mayors.

Led by Lou Mosca, COO/EVP of American Management Services, the group of 15+ small businesses engaged in an interactive discussion on profit planning, inflation, the “great resignation” and upskilling of their workforce. Business leaders from American Christmas, Tri-Technologies, Westchester Barber Academy, 1730 Wine Bar and Eats and many other businesses shared their challenges with Mayor Patterson-Howard, the City of Mount Vernon’s Office of Business and Economic Development, and American Management Services.

Business participants also heard presentations by Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business, Westchester Educational Opportunity Center (WEOC), LISC NYC, Chase and PCSB Bank on support available in Mount Vernon for their business.

Mayor Patterson-Howard said, “Being able to support our small businesses in Mount Vernon is the key to revitalization. Our Office of Business and Economic Development team is ready to help grow our business community and help them increase their capacity. We really want to make Money Earning Mount Vernon real, so we are partnering with these organizations to help them strive and thrive.”

Renee Plummer-Brown, of Double Door Event Space, Inc. said, “It was very practical and informative which as a small business owner is great for us. I am happy to see the city do an event like this and look forward to more roundtable discussions on how the city can support us.”

Wayne O. Davis, VP & Community Manager of Chase Bank said, “Though our outreach and support of small businesses has been poor in the past, Chase is committed to connecting mom and pop ownership entities with a financial solution that best meets their needs. It’s why my role was created.”

Robin D. Mack, Director, Business Development said, “Post-pandemic, several valuable business owners have relayed valuable lessons they have learned – such as, having a Plan B is necessary; utilized creative-thinking to problem solve; networking and information sharing with other businesses helped to combat stress.”
