Mount Vernon Police department arrest suspect in Vehicular homicide

Mount Vernon – On October 1, 2020, at approx. 10:48 pm members of the Mt. Vernon Police Department responded to the area of 47 Grove St on a report of two gunshot victims. Upon arrival, officers observed two individuals who appeared to have been run over by a vehicle. One victim, who was later identified as Romo Jeffress (43-year-old Mount Vernon resident) was pronounced dead on arrival by paramedics. The other victim, a 35-year-old Mount Vernon resident, suffered non-fatal injuries to his leg and shoulder. At the time of the incident, there were no suspects on the scene.

After long work hours and the combined efforts of multiple units, the Mount Vernon Police Department Detective Division was able to identify the driver of the vehicle as Jalen Marin. Marin is a 26-year-old Mount Vernon resident. On Wednesday, October 14, 2020, Marin turned himself into the Major Case detectives accompanied by his attorney, Alix Duroseaul Jr, Esq. Marin has been arrested and charged with Manslaughter in the First Degree and Assault in the First Degree. Marin has no prior criminal history.
