The City of Mount Vernon is joining with The African American Chamber of Commerce of Westchester Inc. (AACCWR) and Rockland Counties, in partnership with the US Black Chamber, Inc. for the second year to encourage encouraging local holiday shopping on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, November 28.
American Express’s “Shop Small Business Saturday” campaign encourages shoppers to patronize small businesses within their communities to help grow local economies. Participating businesses can be identified by the “Shop Small Business” mat in front of their establishment. These businesses will be giving gifts like cloth shopping bags, buttons etc.to those who shop at their business.
The AACCWR, Inc. was established on June 28, 1996 as an independent not-for-profit agency to aid, counsel and protect the interest of African American businesses. The organization’s mission is to preserve competitive enterprise and to maintain and strengthen the overall economy of Westchester and Rockland Counties. Volunteer based, the Chamber’s members are individuals and businesses who work together to advance the commercial, financial, industrial and civic interests of a diverse community. The Chamber sponsors small business seminars, networking events and procurement diversity workshops. Topics range from financial planning, marketing and business management.
