The City of Mount Vernon invites all residents to the Festival of African Cultures to benefit “Thirst for Water” on August 8, 2015 at Hartley Park from 12:00 Noon -8:00 p.m. Entertainment includes Live Jazz, Painting performance, Afro Beats by DJ E’Love, Hip Life Performances Battle of the Drummers, Durbar featuring Chiefs of African Cultures, Arts and Crafts, a Kids Korner featuring the “The Village Experience” and the Azonto Dance Performance Troupe.
The City of Mount Vernon has partnered with Cause for Entertainment LLC and Bridge to Africa 360 to present thi s festival designed to bring greater awareness and understanding to Mount Vernon residents of the cultural differences and similarities existing among the African communities represented in the city. Entertainment will include a special appearance by Camerooon-born Kaïssa worked as a backup singer for artists such as Cesaria Evora, Jean-Michel Jarre, Martha Wash, Paul Simon and Diana Ross. Kaïssa has a strong, appealing voice that resonates. Kaïssa’s passion for music fueled by the romance of Paris, where her family relocated when she was still young. Kaissa’s vocal ability began to turn heads in studios throughout Paris France, and when the opportunity to join French multi-media artist CharlElie Couture’s European tour arose, Kaïssa stepped on the bus and never looked back.
Thirst for Water, an awareness and fundraising campaign and platform aimed at realizing greater accessibility to clean water through portable water solutions and a comprehensive community building program is aiming to teach and implement self-sustaining and empowering techniques in agriculture, education, health and recreation.
