Mount Vernon High School Junior Rai Benjamin is heating up the indoor track circuit. He won the 300 Meter State and Federation titles at the New York State Championships at Cornell. He ran 33.84 which ranks him #2 in New York and #3 in the USA.
Rai broke the meet record and set a new Section 1, Westchester County, and school record. He’s the only athlete to run under 34 seconds in Section history. Milesplit.com is a ranking website for athletes across the country. Rai has made it into a pool on the best performance for boys indoor track.
Mayor Ernest D. Davis will recognize Rai’s achievements on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers. Rai will be joined by the other members of the Mount Vernon High School Track Team including Taniya Mitchell who recently received a full athletic scholarship and committed to Hampton University. She qualified for the New York State Championships at Cornell this past weekend where she placed 10th overall in New York State.
We have a lot to be proud of here in Mount Vernon.
