Join Ben Gordon Week Planning Committee – Week of Activities Planned for Summer Event

Community members interested in helping plan Ben Gordon Family and Community Unity Week are invited to join the Committee on Monday, April 15, 2013 at 6:00 pm in the Mayor’s Conference Room at City Hall.

Plans for the week, tentatively scheduled for  August 19 – 24, include activities for youth and families. Basketball clinics, teen basketball game, talent show, health walk, gospel concert, a family breakfast and the Annual Family and Community Unity Day festivities are being developed. Members of the planning committee will play an important part in producing this community event.

Gordon, shooting guard for the Charlotte Bobcats, helped lead the Mount Vernon High School Knights to the 2000 State Public and Federation Championships and also helped lead the UConn Huskies to the 2004 NCAA Championship. A recipient of many awards, Gordon became the first rookie in NBA history to be awarded the NBA Sixth Man Award and scored the 10-millionth point in NBA history.
