Mount Vernon, New York, June 19, 2012– A Mount Vernon man has been arraigned and remanded on assault charges in 2 shootings in the city.

On Friday June 15th, Mount Vernon Police Detectives arrested Joseph Heflin, 40 years old, of 4 West 4th Street in Mount Vernon, in the South Bronx where he had fled to after shooting at another Mount Vernon resident the week before.

On Saturday June 9th at 10:30 PM, Heflin shot at a resident who was standing in front of 5 West 4th Street.  On Monday June 11th at approximately 11:45 A.M. Heflin shot at the same Mount Vernon man again who was sitting in a parked car at the corner of 4th Avenue and 4th Street.

Heflin has an extensive arrest record in Mount Vernon and New York City, having been arrested 18 times and convicted 14 times, including 4 previous Felony convictions. He was charged in his most recent arrest with 2 counts of Attempted Assault 1st degree, a C Felony.
