A near Million dollar investment in New Playgrounds will help revitalize local neighborhoods and create safe havens for Mount Vernon children

“This is an investment in our children,” noted Mayor Young.  “This new playground will feature a new safety surface, swings, play apparatus, benches and greenery. All told we are investing nearly one million dollars in 2010 capital project funding to renovate 10 playgrounds around the city to give Mount Vernon children a safe place to play as well as revitalize our communities,” said Mayor Young.

Mount Vernon Recreation Commissioner Peter Neglia stated, “This playground renovation project is long overdue. These playgrounds were allowed to deteriorate over the years. Now, we are investing in the city’s open space and providing a safe place for children to play. The city dedicated $135,000 for the design and construction for the Sophie J. Mee playground renovations. This is the first in a long list of playgrounds to be renovated citywide this summer.”
