2017 Earth Day Celebration

CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS – On Saturday April 22nd, the City of Mount Vernon, The Mt. Vernon Downtown Merchant Association & Habitat for Humanity will be participating in the 2017 Annual Earth Day Celebration, presented by Mayor Richard Thomas. The clean-up event will take place on 4th Avenue between 1st Street & 3rd Street, beginning at Harmony Designs – 115 So. 4th Ave. This beautification project will include cleaning litter/debris, planting new flowers and painting various areas. Concluding the event all participants will be invited to a pizza party at City Hall.

Nor’easter Blizzard #StellaMV Updates

Due to the inclement weather from the Nor’easter Blizzard “Stella” the following changes have been made to the City of Mount Vernon operations:

  1. Recycling Pick-ups are Cancelled for Wednesday March 15th, 2017
  2. Alternate Side of the Street Parking Rules are Suspended for Wednesday March 15th, 2017

All Rules, Regulations and Sanitation Pick-ups will return to regular schedule on Thursday March 16th, 2017

Snow Clean-Up Reminders

  • When cleaning snow from your vehicles please DO NOT throw snow into the street. Snow may be shoveled to the front or rear of your parking spot. 
  • If your street is in need of additional plowing and salting, please contact (914) 665 – 2300.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY…A Nor’easter Nears!

Mount Vernon, NY (January 23, 2017) – The City of Mount Vernon has issued a winter weather advisory for 3:00pm Monday, January 23rd until 6:00am Tuesday, January 24. A severe coastal storm will be approaching the region this evening bringing high winds, heavy rain with the potential for flooding, low temperatures in the mid 20’s and possible snow flurries.

Civil Service Commission Meeting Schedule for 2017

Listed below is the Civil Service Commission’s monthly meeting schedule for 2017.

Please note special meetings may be scheduled to address urgent matters. When such occurs, a meeting notice will be posted on the City of Mount Vernon’s website, www.cmvny.com. In the event a public hearing becomes necessary, the Commission will adhere to the contractual obligation of providing 30 days advance notice to the labor unions.

All meetings are open to the public and will convene at 4:30 PM at City Hall in the Memorial Room located on the 2nd Floor.

If you would like to speak at the meeting, please submit your request with outline of the concern in writing to the Civil Service Office, Room #103 at least 10 days before the scheduled meeting.

5th Annual Christmas Concert for Veterans

“Westchester Stars…and Friends” are hosting their 5th Annual Christmas Concert for Veterans at the Paramount Hudson Valley Theater in Peekskill, NY on Friday, December 2, 2016 at 7:30 pm.

Tickets are normally priced at $35- $100 per seat, but are FREE to veterans (and their spouse/families) that would like to attend by calling or coming to The Veterans Office, Rm. 4 in City Hall to reserve seats. Interested parties should respond by Wednesday 11/30.

6th Ave Bridge Closure

After years of neglect our bridges are now beginning to receive the immediate attention and repairs that where long overdue. Metro North will commence with repairs to the 6th Ave Bridge between Stevens Avenue & 1st Street. The bridge will be temporarily closed from December 5th – 8th. #FixOurBridges #MVReady #MVDPW
