David A. Ford, Sr. has been the heart of the Mount Vernon Water Department since the time of his appointment to Commissioner in 1977. Under his leadership, the Board of Water Supply has continued a longstanding tradition of excellence.

Commissioner Ford has been an active member of the community for all of his adult life. Over the years, he has served as President of the Lions Club of Mount Vernon, and President of the Mount Vernon YMCA, Life Member of the 369 Veteran's Association, and a Life Member of the Mount Vernon NAACP. From 1969 to 1996, he was Chairman of the Mount Vernon Democratic City Committee. He is Chairman of the Board of the Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health Center and a member of the National Association of Health Care Providers.

Commissioner Ford has been the recipient of many awards and honors for his dedication to the community. From the YMCA, he received the Service Award, the Man of the Year Award, and the Citizen of the Year Award. He received the Dedication for Equality Award from the Vulcan Society of Westchester, the Political Action Award from the Mount Vernon NAACP, and the ADL Torch of Liberty Award.

Commissioner Ford is a member of the American Water Works Association (AWWA). Because of his recognition of the importance of research in advancing the science of water, the Board of Water Supply has supported the AWWA Research Foundation for over ten years.

Commissioner Ford is a Veteran of World War II. He is married and the proud father of four children. Additionally, he is lucky to have five grandchildren and one great-grandchild to keep him young.
