Biography
Lisa Copeland
City Clerk
In January 2003, Lisa A. Copeland was unanimously appointed Mount Vernon City Clerk for a second four-year term. She has also served as Deputy City Clerk for almost four years prior to being appointed. In August 2001, New York State Commissioner of Education, Richard Mills appointed Ms. Copeland the Local Government Regional Advisory Committee (LGRAC) for Region 9. She currently is Vice-Chair of the committee. Also in 2001, Ms. Copeland earned the professional designation of Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks. Ms. Copeland’s vibrant and dynamic personality as well as her commitment to public service has led her to become involved in numerous civic and community associations. This includes being a member of Westchester County’s Human Rights Commission and African American Advisory Board. She is a member of Key Women of America Inc., Black Democrats of Westchester and Rotary International. Ms. Copeland is proud of her membership in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., a public service sorority. She receives her spiritual nourishment from the ministry at Grace Baptist Church of Mount Vernon, New York. Her civic involvement extends to being President of the Board of Directors of the Quincy Cooperative and the Mount Vernon Family YMCA as well as a member of the board of The Mount Vernon Boys and Girls Club and the Federated Conservationists of Westchester County. She is a Life Member of the Mount Vernon Chapter of the N.A.A.C.P. Finally, Ms. Copeland gives guidance as a Junior Achievement Classroom and Read-A-Loud Volunteer. Ms. Copeland has received several awards and recognition, most recently; The African American Men of Westchester’s Community Leadership Award and the YMCA of Central and Northern Westchester’s Community Service Award.
