Community Development Block Grant Program FY 2018-2019


The City of Mount Vernon is inviting eligible non-profit 501 (c)(3) organizations to submit applications for the Community Development Block Grant funds for the 2018- 2019 program year.

Pre-application workshops will be held so that interested groups can review the process of submitting an application to be considered for funds. Applicants will be required to attend one of the three pre-application workshops.

Applications will be due no later than 4:00 pm on Friday, May 25, 2018, at City Hall, 1 Roosevelt Square, Mount Vernon, NY 10550. 

 To be eligible, a program must satisfy one of the following national objectives:

  • Provide a benefit to low and moderate income persons,
  • Prevent or eliminate slums and blight, or
  • Meet other urgent community development needs due to natural disasters or other emergencies.

MVIDA Public Hearing on 4/4/18 @ 11:00am (‘Ace Natural, Inc. & Exit 8 Hutch LLC’ Project)

The Mount Vernon Industrial Development Agency will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at 11:00am in the Mayor’s Conference Room at City Hall, One Roosevelt Square, Mount Vernon, New York  10550.  The public hearing will concern the Agency’s providing financial assistance for Ace Natural, Inc.’s and Exit 8 Hutch LLC’s proposed project consisting of the renovation and equipping of an existing property located at 249-257 East Sandford Boulevard, Mount Vernon, New York, to be used as an organic food distribution center, including offices, distribution facilities, and some food processing, packaging and cold storage.

State of the City Address

Mayor Richard Thomas will deliver his State of the City Address to the City Council tonight March 14, 2018 at 7:00pm in the City Council Chambers. All Citizens are encourage to attend.  This action is being perform per  City Charter Article VI §63 below

Duties of the Mayor; messages.

[Amended by L.L. No. 9-1960; L.L. No. 1-1972]
It shall be the duty of the Mayor to see that the City officers and departments faithfully perform their duties; to maintain peace and good order within the City; to take care that the laws of the state and the ordinances of the City Council are executed and enforced within the City; to communicate by written message to the City Council at a regular meeting in March and at such other times as he may deem proper, a statement of the finances and general condition of the affairs of the City with such recommendations in relation thereto as he may deem proper; to give such information in relation to the same as the City Council may from time to time require; and to call a special meeting of the City Council whenever in his judgment it is required by public necessity.
