The City of Mount Vernon, in conjunction with the Mount Vernon City School District,

July 7, 2009; Office Of The Mayor

The City of Mount Vernon, in conjunction with the Mount Vernon City School District, Mount Vernon Police Department, Westchester County Department of Social Services, and the Westchester County District Attorney wants every child to succeed in school. By ensuring that your child attends school, he/she will have a greater chance of being a successful young adult.

This is an awareness campaign to help our children succeed. We are asking for parents to be advocates for their child’s education.

  • ·        If your child cannot attend school, please contact the school on the day of absence and send a note when your child returns.

·        If your child is going to be absent for more than three days, please contact your school office to make arrangements for missed academic    assignments.

  • ·        If you are having difficulties in getting your child to school, please contact your school office, Student Advocacy at 914-347-7039 or you can call #2-1-1 for additional services.

Mayor Young says, “In an all out initiative to make young people successful, we are starting this message early for school year 2009-2010.  But most importantly, we want to reach the parents to help us make our children thriving, caring adults. All of the systems and levels of government cannot work without the involvement of our parents and the community.”
