The Youth Bureau provides innovative and creative programs to fit the needs of Mount Vernon's youth and families. Knowing that services are needed, the Youth Bureau seeks to:
- Promote the Youth Bureau as the coordinator and advocate of youth programs in our city.
- Facilitate exchange of ideas, information, and mutual concern between agencies and departments.
- Promote a greater understanding about the contents and benefits of the county comprehensive plan for youth.
The Youth Bureau has focused on a more aggressive approach to applying for grants and funding to implement special programs that address the problems facing the youth of Mount Vernon. The department hopes to secure over one half million dollars in funding to address some of our youth concerns.
Tedious hours of program planning, proposal writing, and budgeting has enabled Mount Vernon to be awarded increased funding from various sources, such as:
- State of New York Office of Children and Family Services
- Workforce Investment Act Board
- Invest-In-Kids
- Westchester County Youth Bureau
- Mount Vernon Community Development Agency
- Westchester County Department of Social Services
- Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Services (APPS)
- New York State Assemblyman James Gary Pretlow
