Dear Friends,

As our city continues to grow and evolve, we must take time to reflect on its strengths and determine a guide for preserving our most beloved features while enhancing our physical development; that is the purpose of developing a Comprehensive Plan. 

Since the development of the city’s last Comprehensive Plan in 1968, our city has gone through many changes. We have also seen the development of new technologies and practices that we wish to incorporate in this city that will help us work through the current economic climate facing our local government and nation at large. We hope to incorporate green technologies and Smart Growth initiatives that will improve the efficiency with which we consume energy, while improving the overall quality of life for those who live, work and visit Mount Vernon for years to come. 

We invite you to participate in the process at public meetings and by keeping abreast of new developments on our web site and in the news.

Young, Jr. the Department of Planning & Community Development is inviting the community to participate in one of two Comprehensive Plan Public Meetings: Tuesday April 20th, at the Parker Elementary School Auditorium , 461 S 6th Ave, from 6:30-8:30 pm OR Thursday April 22nd, at the AB Davis Middle School Cafeteria, 350 Gramatan Ave, from 6:30-8:30 pm OR Saturday May 8th, at the Armory, 144 N 5th Ave From 9:00am-12:00pm

This is an opportunity for you to hear and comment on feedback regarding public meetings held last fall. Your participation is vital to the development of our plan!
