James Dumser

  • He was raised in the City of Mount Vernon.
  • Graduated from Archbishop Stepinac High School 1969.
  • Graduated from Nichols College 1973; Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
  • He was appointed as a Police Officer on July 26, 1975.
  • Assigned to the Detective Division, April 2, 1984.
  • Promoted to Sergeant on January 13, 1989 as a Street Patrol Supervisor.
  • Promoted to Lieutenant on September 10, 1994 as a Squad Commander.
  • Assigned to Detective Division as Executive Officer, January 1999.  During this assignment he was tasked with and successfully completed the New York State Re-Accreditation process of this Department.
  • Promoted to Captain on December 23, 1999.
  • Promoted to Deputy Chief May 17, 2006
  • Assigned as Commanding Officer, Support Services Division, March, 2000.
  • He is currently assigned to the Chief’s Office.
  • During his tenure he has successfully completed the following Specialized Training:
    • Swat Training, April 1977.
    • EMT Training, December 1977.
    • Hostage Negotiation, May 1978.
    • Homicide School, April 1987.
    • Crisis Negotiation, June 1997.
    • Weapons of Mass Destruction Awareness, June 2005.
  • He graduated from the FBI National Academy, Quantico, VA, 2004.
  • He is a member of the Police Emerald Society of Westchester Pipes and Drums.
  • He is married with five children.  His three sons are all sworn Police Officers  His eldest Daughter is a Magnum Cum Laude graduate of Iona College in New Rochelle with a Major in Communications and is now working for a media company in Poughkeepsie, NY.  His youngest daughter is an honors student with an Associate Degree from Dutchess Community College. She plans to attend a four-year college.
