Tree Planting Ceremony in Honor of Jeannette Pettaway

The City Council will host a tree planting ceremony in honor the late Jeannette Pettaway, a community activist who endeavored to beautify the City of Mount Vernon.  

The tree planting ceremony will take place at the Griffith and Valentino Memorial Firehouse located at 50 West Third Street on Thursday, May 25, 2017.  The ceremony will begin at 3:30 p.m.

 

City Council To Host Financial Forum

The City Council will host a financial forum on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.  The forum will be held in the City Council Chambers located on the 2nd Floor of Mount Vernon City Hall.

The purpose of the forum is to discuss the city’s finances based on the independent auditor’s report for the year ending December 31, 2015.  Comptroller Walker will also be present.

Join the City Council as they provide details of the city’s finances.

City Council To Honor Distinguished Citizens

The City Council is pleased to announce the honorees of the 2017 Spring Honoring Ceremony which will be held during a regular City Council meeting on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.  Twice each year, Council Members honor individuals and organizations who have made valuable contributions to the Mount Vernon community.   Honorees are:

  1. All Islands Association, Inc., a scholarship and fundraising organization;
  2. Ken Bright, President and Founder of The LIFE Progressive Services Group, Inc.;
  3. Geoff Munroe, community activist;
  4. Rev. Dr. Lillian F. Reynolds, youth advocate;
  5. Frank Trolio, Jr., community member and Mount Vernon businessman.
     

All are invited to join the City Council as they recognize these honorees.

The public is invited to attend a Town Hall Forum hosted by the City Council on Saturday, April 1, 2017 from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.  All are welcome to come with their questions or concerns.

CALL FOR CANDIDATES – Board of Ethics, City of Mount Vernon

 

The City Council is searching for individuals to fill confidential, volunteer positions on the Board of Ethics for the City of Mount Vernon.

 

The Board of Ethics is comprised of five members appointed by the City Council, all of whom shall reside in the City of Mount Vernon. Amongst its powers and duties, the Board of Ethics shall have the power and authority to investigate allegations of unethical practices relating to conflicts of interest, ethical conduct and interest of municipal officers and employees in contracts, and to render reports of such investigations and recommendations to the City Council for action.

Public Hearing on Proposed Tree Ordinance Amendment

LEGAL NOTICE

CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MOUNT VERNON

 

Notice of Public Hearing on proposed amendments to Chapter 252 of the Code of the City of Mount Vernon, New York entitled “Trees”.

 

PURPOSE: The City Council of the City of Mount Vernon as lead agency pursuant to the New York State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) seeks to receive comments from the public and interested agencies concerning environmental topics related to the amendment of the City’s tree ordinance.

 

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACTION: Amendment to the City’s tree ordinance.

 

The City of Mount Vernon’s tree ordinance (Chapter 252 of the Mount Vernon City Charter) was last amended on December 23, 1965. Upon the request of the City Council, the Planning Board with the help of “The Mount Vernon Citizen Tree Committee” (a committee composed of Mount Vernon homeowners and residents formed to review, amend, and strengthen Mount Vernon’s existing tree ordinance) proposed Code amendments. The recommended ordinance changes were adopted by the full Planning Board on November 4, 2015 as its formal recommendation to the Mount Vernon City Council. Currently the Mount Vernon City Council is reviewing and assessing the suggested amendments for formal adoption.

 

LOCATION OF THE ACTION: City of Mount Vernon.

 

SEQRA CLASSIFICATION:       “Unlisted” action.
