Rose Simon Summer Camp
The Rose Simon Summer Camp program provides safe and secure recreational activities for children with developmental disabilities due to mental retardation, cerebral palsy, neurological impairment, epilepsy and autism. Activities include games, arts and crafts, swimming, bowling, movies, barbecues, and sporting activities. Campers will take trips to the New York Hall of Science, Rye Playland, Sportstime USA and various museums.
Track and Field Clinic
This summer, the Department of Recreation will offer track and field clinics at the Mount Vernon high school. Monday – Thursday afternoons from 3:30pm – 6:00 pm, children ages 7-12 will learn the fundamentals of running track. Program Fee: $120 per 2-week session.
Basketball Clinic
The Department of Recreation will be hosting a basketball clinic at the Mount Vernon high school for children ages 7-17. This program will teach children the fundamentals of basketball from dribbling, to passing and shooting. The program will run from Monday – Friday, from 1pm – 5pm. Program Fee: $75 per week.
Soccer Clinic
The Department of Recreation, in partnership with Backyard Sports will be hosting a series of two week Soccer Clinics at Hutchinson Field from July 8th – August 15th for children in grades 2nd – 6th. The Program will run Monday – Thursday from 3:30pm – 6:00pm. Program Fee: $120 per 2-week session.

Zumba Fitness
Zumba classes will take place at the Transcend Dance studio on Monday evenings from 7:15pm – 8:15pm. Zumba classes feature exotic rhythms set to high-energy Latin and international beats. This program is for participants ages 13 and older. Program fee: $70 per 10 week session. April 15th – June 24th, 2013. Zumba Gold
Zumba Gold classes will be held on Tuesday mornings at the Mount Vernon Armory from 10:00am – 10:45am. Zumba Gold uses the classic Zumba formula and modifies the moves and pacing to suit the needs of older participants. Program Fee: $40 per 10 sessions. April 16 – June 25, 2013. Registration for this class will be taken at the Mount Vernon Department of Recreation, 1 Roosevelt Square, Room 11.
After School Activities – Pennington Elementary
Looking for something fun and educational for your child to do after school? The Mount Vernon Department of Recreation offers after school activities for children ages 5 – 12 at the Pennington Elementary School. Children will receive homework assistance every day while also having the opportunity to partake in fun recreational activities like basketball, martial arts, tennis, card and board games, arts and crafts and more! This program operates Monday – Friday from 3:00pm – 6:00pm. Program Fee: $375.00 per 10 – week session ( Less than $2.50 per hour!)
Learn to Skate
Sign up for instructional skating lessons at the Mount Vernon Ice Hutch. Children ages 8 – 17 can receive skating instruction on Saturday afternoons from 1:00 pm – 1:30 pm. Sign up now, space is limited!
City of Mount Vernon Recreation Department Request for Proposals / Qualifications – Tennis Recreation Center
The City of Mount Vernon, New York, (the “City”) a municipal corporation, located in Westchester County, New York, seeks proposals from qualified and responsible contractors for a long term agreement to design, develop, construct a tennis bubble and manage/operate, through a lease agreement, a tennis center including tennis courts and related tennis facilities at the site at Memorial Field, Mount Vernon, New York.
The successful contractor will provide the design of a tennis bubble that can be accommodated within the designated site. The contractor will provide all labor, equipment, services, materials and permits for the design, construction of a tennis bubble and management/operation for the tennis facilities.
Please submit one (1) orignial and ten (10) copies to the Commissioner of the Department of Recreation, One Roosevelt Square, Room 11, Mount Vernon, NY 10550. Proposals must be received no later than April 1, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. Proposals received after that date will not be accepted.
