This past Saturday the Youth Bureau began a FREE Saturday STEM Academy for Mount Vernon youth in grades 4 to 7 (ages 9-12) who have an interest in learning about science, technology, engineering and math. The programs, offered through a partnership with the Mount Vernon Public Library and ArchforKids, offers young people with a passion for building and designing can explore the fun aspects of science. It will run through Saturday, December 20th from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM (there is a longer day when field trips are offered).
Students will have the unique opportunity wear the hats of architects and designers in training when they participate in science experiments and participate in a recycled fashion show, slime creation, and sink and float tanks. They will investigate engineering and architectural concepts through different themes such as bridges, skyscrapers, playground or architectural elements.
Space is limited. Applications must be returned to the Mount Vernon Youth Bureau. Acceptance into theSTEMAcademy will close on Friday, October 16, 2014. A parent or guardian must attend 30 minute orientation on Saturday, October 11 orSaturday October 18, 2014 at9:30am.
