REVISED AGENDA

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT IS TUESDAY, AUGUST 6

When Mount Vernon opened a mini-precinct in one of the buildings of the Levister Towers complex last year, it was the city’s intention to impact crime in the neighborhood.  This year’s National Night Out activities will take place on Tuesday August 6, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on the grounds of the housing complex in the courtyard behind the mini precinct’s 70 West Third Street location.

The festivities will include a first ever National Night Out Barbecue complete with refreshments, giveaways, a bounce house and cotton candy machine. The Police Department will also have an open house of the mini precinct where neighborhood residents can file complaints and get assistance with a myriad of issues.

Representatives from Target, Westchester DA, Urban League, Victims Assistance, the Police Benevolent Association (PBA), Animal Shelter and the Police Department Youth Bureau will be on hand to provide information to residents. Police and Fire demonstrations will also be conducted.

National Night Out, a nationwide event designed to promote crime prevention awareness and strengthen community relations with members of the Police Department, as well as obtain information about the departments many programs, is celebrating 30 years of observance in communities across the nation. Each year the City of Mount Vernon’s Police Department brings together community organizations and other city agencies for National Night Out activities.

The City of Mount Vernon is committed to improving the quality of life for residents by establishing improved relations between police and residents. The Police Department, as part of its community policing effort, has placed renewed emphasis on interacting with citizens more in nonresponsive ways.
