Black History Month Challenge Coming to Armory February 26

Middle and high school students will get a chance to test their knowledge of African American history and the contributions of blacks within the sciences on Tuesday, February 26.

After receiving requests from local students, the Mount Vernon Community That Cares coalition through the Mount Vernon Youth Bureau, agreed to  once again host the popular competition that brings together teams from the city’s middle and high schools. Students compete for top honors in awareness of African American contributions and recognition of trailblazers, both past and present.

Funded from a Drug Free Communities Grant and the City of Mount Vernon, the Challenge is used as a vehicle to encourage city youth to abstain from alcohol and drug use. This is the sixth year that the Challenge will highlight contributions people of African descent have made to the world, the nation and local community.

The event is free and open to the public. Food, music, entertainment and informational material will be provided. The quiz show-like competition runs from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Armory.
