– Mayor Clinton I. Young, Jr. announced today that on Friday, August 12, 2011, the Department of Recreation and basketball star Ben Gordon will host the “Journey to the Throne” Gospel concert at the Doles Community Center located at 250 South 6th Avenue in Mount Vernon. This event starts promptly at 6:00 pm and is open to the public.
“Every year we look forward to having Superstar Ben Gordon here in his hometown of Mount Vernon. Mr. Gorton was born and raised in the City of Mount Vernon. He is an outstanding young man and an inspiration to the entire community. He has donated his time and money to better the lives of our children and community. I commend him and his family for always giving back to Mount Vernon,” stated Mayor Clinton I. Young, Jr.
As a Mount Vernon Knight, Ben Gordon led Mount Vernon High School to the 2000 New York State Public and Federation Championships. He then attended the University of Connecticut and helped the Huskies win the 2004 NCAA championship. Ben Gordon was later drafted to the Chicago Bulls and now plays for the Detroit Pistons.
“The City of Mount Vernon and the Department of Recreation is proud to host Journey to the Throne Gospel Concert with Ben Gordon. It is a wonderful event that brings the community together. I urge everyone to come out for the free concert. We are all proud to celebrate with Ben and his family,” stated Commissioner Peter J. Neglia of the Mount Vernon Department of Recreation.
