The City of Mount Vernon Tests a New Constituent Request System

Derrickson Lawrence explains user friendly SRRS system at news conference

New SRRS System is Designed Enhance Constituent Service and Improve Government Efficiency

Mount Vernon, NY—Mayor Clinton I. Young, Jr. announced during a news conference today that the City of Mount Vernon is testing a new system aimed at improving communication between the citizens of Mount Vernon and City Hall. The system called the Service Request Response System (SRRS) will be piloted first with the Department of Public Works.

Mayor Clinton I. Young, Jr. said, “This system is the first of its kind in Westchester County. It is user friendly and allows residents to communicate with city hall 24 hours a day.”

The SRRS is an Internet-based tool and smart technology that will allow DPW, as the first department testing the service,  to log service requests, in specific categories, and get it to the responsible foreman near real-time, thereby enabling residents to receive progress updates by email or text, or track service progress and status (unique to their call) online. So, residents with Internet access will no longer need to call DPW to follow up on the status of prior service calls.  Moreover, the automated tracking number, issued at the time of the service request, or the caller’s last name will simplify the search, of prior requests, for DPW’s staff and for residents who may not have Internet access. Finally the tool, in addition to improving inter-operability between DPW’s staff and the foremen in the field, offers metric reporting and graphical views of functions that will allow the City to perform trending analysis and aggregate data to aid in budget forecasting.

“The SRRS system is an invaluable tool in bringing our department into the 21-Century. Our information relay system is faster and more efficient,” said Public Works Commissioner Terrence Horton.

“As a Mount Vernon-based organization, with a legacy of innovative product development, we are excited to produce a tool-set that’s aligned with the Mayor’s vision and where the ultimate beneficiaries are our neighbors”, said Derickson K. Lawrence, CEO of MarketView Resources, Inc., the company that developed the system.
