U.S. SENATOR KIRSTEN GILLIBRAND VISITS MAYOR YOUNG
AND THE CITY OF MOUNT VERNON

Foreclosure Relief was the main focus of discussion

MOUNT VERNON, NY – Mayor Clinton I. Young, Jr. played host to United States Senator Kirsten Gillibrand on Sunday, June 13 th. Sen. Gillibrand was in town to discuss her efforts to push for federal legislation which would provide relief for families facing foreclosure as well as funding for local governments to purchase and rehabilitate foreclosed and abandoned homes thereby protecting property values in affected neighborhoods.

The discussions took place at the House of Soul restaurant located on East Prospect Avenue and among the invited guests were: Congressman Eliot Engel; State Senators Ruth Hassell-Thompson and Jeff Klein; State Assemblyman J. Gary Pretlow; County Legislator Lyndon Williams; Councilman Steven Horton; Deveraux Cannick; Robin Douglas and Derickson Lawrence.

The primary item for discussion was the foreclosure crisis that affects Mount Vernon particularly hard. Senator Gillibrand is pushing for federal legislation that would help keep more families in their homes and almost all in attendance at this meeting indicated support for her legislation.

"It was a great pleasure to welcome Senator Kirsten Gillibrand to our great city today," said Mayor Young. "I look forward to working with Senator Gillibrand and her staff to keep more families in their homes. Senator Gillibrand 'gets it' and is fighting the good fight, not just for Mount Vernon, but for communities across the state."

  2010 City Budget

Mount Vernon’s 2010 Budget…

In the midst of economic times our country has not seen in decades, the people of the City of Mount Vernon and Mayor Clinton Young, together, have produced an annual budget that represents one of the lowest increases for taxpayers in Westchester County. A low increase, however, will not mean a shortfall in services. Mayor Young has made a commitment with this budget to improve efficiency of city hall and bolster the services provided to citizens on a daily basis.

The City of Mount Vernon has its eye on the future, but these are the most crucial years in our history. We are embracing technology, we are going green, and we are developing better ways of doing the city’s business. Our city’s budget reflects this vision and will move us many steps forward, toward the brighter days to come.
